There are some pastimes that come and go with time, and then there are those which seem destined to forever form a part of our culture. One such pastime is fishing: an activity that has been around in many different shapes and forms since man first learned that fish can provide sustenance, and has supplied individuals with peace, relaxation, excitement and a challenge for as long as anyone can remember.
This is a pastime that can be tailored to your mood (whether you want some R&R away from the world of work, or fancy something a little challenging and difficult), but also allows for a significant amount of travel and exploration. More and more fishing enthusiasts are finding ways to work their pastime into their holidays, as the great thing about fishing is that the experience differs completely from place to place. One popular spot for those in search of a sunnier destination for their fishing is Spain.
Getting over to Spain for a fishing holiday is easy: plenty of companies now offer cheap package deals on flights and accommodation, and you can pick up travel insurance from a site like Direct Travel Insurance, without having to leave your desk. Once you've got any special equipment covered, you can explore the diverse landscapes of the country and lose yourself in some wonderful rivers and lakes.
Spain is home to various National Parks which boast great fishing opportunities. In Jaen province, for example, visitors can explore the Sierra de Cazorla Park. Two of the Iberian Peninsula’s most important rivers have their source here, and the park is alive with brooks, rivers, inlets and waterfalls. There are also plenty of lakes and reservoirs dotted around the park, all providing great fishing opportunities. And once you’ve had your fill of fishing you can try your hand at the other activities on offer, including: hiking, horse treks, canoeing, paragliding and caving.
Head instead to the Costa Blanca and you can experience some of Spain’s best fresh water fishing. The Amadorio Dam and the Guadalest’s Dam hold barbel, black bass, rainbow trout and some truly impressive carp. In order to catch the protected rainbow trout you will need a license with a trout supplement, but for true fishing enthusiasts this will be a small price to pay for some great opportunities.
